
An ongoing police search is underway for one suspect following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a foot chase in the Salt Lake area. The incident began with the detection of a stolen vehicle that was reportedly involved in an aggravated assault using a weapon.
The chase unfolded Friday evening when the Unified Police Department attempted to stop the said vehicle, according to FOX 13. The attempt resulted in the suspects fleeing, and the consequential spiking of the vehicle's tires near 300 West and North Temple brought the pursuit to a halt. Two individuals were apprehended, however, one remains at large, sparking a manhunt through the city.
Upon identifying the vehicle, police deployed several agencies to contain the situation. A Department of Public Safety helicopter was used, alongside units from the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Department, as detailed by ABC 4. The incident led to two suspects being captured around 8:48 p.m., moments after the spiked vehicle was deserted and the suspects fled on foot.
The suspect still at large is believed to be a Polynesian male, with a distinguishing tattoo running down the left side of his face, Lieutenant Torin Chambers of the Unified Police Department described, as obtained by FOX 13. The public has been advised, to avoid the area during the ongoing search. Despite the intense nature of the incident, no injuries have been reported at this time, and authorities indicate there is no further danger to the public.
Details regarding the specifics of the previous aggravated assault with which the stolen vehicle was involved are yet to be disclosed.
