Two Arizona cities have been recognized for their appeal both regionally and globally, drawing attention to the state's growth and vitality in the realms of real estate and livability. According to a report by Phoenix Business Journal, real estate company Opendoor has highlighted Maricopa – ZIP code 85138 – as the 18th most popular area in the nation, marking a rise in visibility for Arizona cities, which did not feature in 2023's top 20.

The Opendoor list, encompassing both the most sought-after ZIP codes and emerging Hidden Gems, saw Tucson's 85716 making the cut in the $400K to $600K bracket as a neighborhood worth watching. This spotlight reflects a shift over the past three years where, "people have chosen to move away from city centers in favor of tighter-knit communities, but still live close enough to commute, and be close to the action," as reported by Opendoor.

Methodologically, the Opendoor rankings were based on data from Multiple Listing Services, measuring the traction of homes going into contract within 90 days of listing in 2024. The identification of Hidden Gems involved a calculation of the percentage increase in the number of new ZIP code listings from January to November 2024, with a minimum of five new listings in each of those months required for consideration.

Meanwhile, AZCentral reports that Resonance Consultancy's 2025 World's Best Cities list has recognized Phoenix and Tucson among its top 100 cities worldwide. Phoenix, though down to No. 89 from its No. 49 spot in 2020, has earned marks for its affordability and burgeoning art and museum scene. Tucson, on the other hand, claimed the No. 77 position, with its "bold city leadership and placemaking," and acknowledgments stemming from its status as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, its national parks, and historic districts.

The ranking, calculated through categories such as livability, lovability, and prosperity, reflects the cities' balance across various quality-of-life metrics. Phoenix's dining scene, for example, has gained traction, with the report specifically highlighting Sam Fox's new hotel and the Arizona Biltmore as standouts in the sector. Tucson's cultural leadership and renowned culinary figures like Don Guerra and Maria Mazon have cemented its place as a city of growing prestige. Among U.S. cities, Tucson and Phoenix rank 28th, and 38th respectively in the global echelon.
