Get ready for a celebration of sports, empowerment, and good ol' sweat, Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is hosting their 4th annual Girls Got Game event at Tropical Park Stadium on February 1, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is set to coincide with National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a time to let the sneakers do the talking and run circles around gender stereotypes, quite literally.
Girls Got Game, targeting girls ages 6-17, is saddling up a roster of sports, now including soccer, volleyball, flag football, netball, softball, and tennis. And for those eager to learn, local coaches alongside athletes will chalk up their wisdom, guiding the girls through activities that not just hone their skills but promote teamwork and confidence—essential for both the field and real life. Participants must be pre-registering for this free public event, no wallet necessary, just a lot of can-do attitude, or can simply dial Courtney De Stefano at 786-527-0322 for a spot on this high-fives-all-round day.
It's a fact that athletic opportunities can often be a hop, skip, and a jump away for many girls out there. So, the good folks at Miami-Dade Parks are giving a leg-up with Girls Got Game, serving accessible and inclusive sports experiences. The endgame is getting girls jazzed about sports today, with hopes high as a perfectly arched volleyball of them sticking with it into adulthood. According to Miami-Dade Government announcement, Girls Got Game is providing "accessible and inclusive sports experiences in parks for girls who might not otherwise have an opportunity to play these sports."
We know from past editions and the enduring mission that Miami-Dade Parks takes its role seriously in fostering the seeds of future sports enthusiasts and pros. They've got a track record of creating environments where girls get to take a swing at sports in a supportive and fun stadium full of potential pals. So, lace-up, or velcro tight, whatever your style may be, and head to Tropical Park Stadium to lean into the cheers, the runs, and of course, the games.
