Miami-Dade County's Animal Services has launched the WOW (Wellness on Wheels) Mobile Veterinary Clinic, a move to bridge the healthcare gap for pets in underserved areas. The mobile clinic, according to the county's recent announcement, is set to provide essential wellness services to owned dogs and cats at no cost to their humans.
Often located in what are known as veterinary deserts, these locales see the mobile clinic plant itself for a stretch of three months, ensuring that families seeking care do not confront the inconsistency at every turn which can jeopardize the very well-being of their cherished companions. The current campaign is taking place in partnership with Commissioner Eileen Higgins. From January 6 through March 26, the clinic will take up residence at the Paseo del Rio Apartments in District 5.
Services on offer include a gamut of preventative care like vaccinations, boosters, deworming, flea prevention, and referrals for spay and neuter surgeries. The free clinic operates on a first-come, first-served basis, opening its doors Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., as reported by Miami-Dade County. It's important for pet owners to note that the service isn't available from Thursday to Sunday and will also be closed on county-observed holidays.
The very existence of this initiative is owed to a sizeable donation, specifically a generous vehicle, along with grant funding provided by the Friends of Miami Animals Foundation Inc. The Miami-Dade Animal Services Department encourages interested individuals to visit their website for more information, to call 311, or to follow @adoptmiamipets on social media to get the latest updates on the veterinary services offered by the WOW Mobile.
