February in Miami is a time to immerse in the vibrant tapestry of events that celebrate Black History Month. According to the Miami-Dade County announcement, a variety of cultural festivities will take place, embracing the theme "African Americans and Labor" to honor the manifold contributions of Black individuals throughout history, from the era of forced servitude to the modern echelons of corporate leadership.
Art enthusiasts and history buffs alike will find their interests met—the agenda includes everything from Sip of History: Stories of Resistance from Black Miami on February 1 at HistoryMiami Museum, to the Pérez Art Museum Miami's (PAMM) 12th Anniversary of Art + Soul on the same day, a social as well as fundraising event bolstering the Fund for Black Art. Meanwhile, music and dance lovers can anticipate live performances that resonate with the struggles and triumphs of the Black community across various venues.
Another highlight is the annual Black History Month kickoff and exhibit hosted by the Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board; it's scheduled for February 4 at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, a focal point for exploring the profound narratives of Black labor and leadership. Following up mid-month, the Heritage Fest at the Adrienne Arsht Center on February 18 promises a spectacular display of Pan-African culture and local artistry according to a statement on the county's website.
Jazz enthusiasts should mark their calendars for a four-day festival featuring Melton Mustafa from February 28 to March 2 at The Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater.
