A motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon after his bike collided with an SUV turning left onto State Road 7 in Boca Raton, and investigators say he was ejected from his motorcycle and came to rest inside the back seat of the vehicle that struck him. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says no charges had been filed as of Friday, with the crash still under investigation.
According to the WPTV report, the crash happened at around 2:58 p.m. Friday at the intersection of State Road 7 and EF Johns Parkway. The motorcyclist, riding a 2001 Yamaha YZF-R1, was headed northbound in the center lane of State Road 7 when a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox traveling westbound on EF Johns Parkway attempted to turn left and crossed the highway improperly, entering the motorcycle's path, per officials cited in the report. EF Johns Parkway is a newly built access road connecting the Lotus Edge community, developed by G.L. Homes, to State Road 7, according to BocaNewsNow.com.
Rider Thrown Into Back Seat of SUV
Unable to avoid the collision, the motorcyclist was ejected and his bike struck the rear door of the Equinox, per the report — with the rider then coming to rest within the SUV's back seat. The motorcyclist died, and the Boca Post reported he was wearing a helmet at the time of impact.
The SUV driver was identified by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office as 61-year-old Lotus Edge resident Alan Stuart Greif, according to the Boca Post, though WPTV's report describes the driver as a 61-year-old Boca Raton man. He was uninjured and wearing his seatbelt, deputies said. The motorcyclist has not been publicly identified.
