Milpitas and San Jose Residents Arrested as Police Dismantle Identity Theft Ring in MilpitasSource: Milpitas Police Department

The Milpitas Police Department's SWAT team and detectives made headway in what turned out to be a complex fraud investigation this week. According to a social media post by the Milpitas Police, a raid to serve a search warrant at an apartment block on 600 Blk E. Capitol Avenue unearthed more than just stolen mail. The search, culminating in a mail and package theft probe, revealed a whole identity theft ring operating within the city.

During their investigation, authorities seized stolen mail, financial ledgers, abundant evidence of identity theft, and materials used to produce fraudulent checks methodically. The police action resulted in the arrest of two individuals: a 28-year-old Milpitas local charged with identity theft and a 56-year-old from San Jose, detained for possession of a collapsible baton and an extant felony parole violation warrant. A third suspect is still at large, with detectives seeking to secure an arrest warrant for burglary rapidly.

"A case that started as a mail theft quickly led to several other crimes and the discovery of an identity theft ring!" said the Milpitas Police in their statement. They credited "clear video surveillance, prompt reporting from victims, and the hard work of our officers and detectives" for the apprehensions and the broader uncovering of the criminal operation. The suspects are expected to face their charges in court with the evidence in hand.
