As winter settles in, the Milwaukee Police Department is reminding residents that leaving a vehicle running and unattended can lead to theft.
In a Milwaukee Police Department Facebook post, the department stated, "Vehicle theft can happen very quickly and is especially true during colder mornings when many owners leave their vehicle unattended to warm up." They also reminded drivers that in Wisconsin, it is illegal to leave a vehicle running with the key in it.
In addition to keeping vehicles off and locked, the Milwaukee Police Department advised residents to protect valuables by hiding them or locking them in the glove box or trunk. "Hide valuables under the seats, lock them in the glove box or trunk, or cover them with something," the department suggested, aiming to reduce the temptation for potential thieves.
