The search for a hiker who had gone missing at the Guadalupe Mountains National Park ended in relief as the individual was found safe on Sunday, Jan. 12. The National Park Service (NPS) reported the hiker had been separated from their group the previous day after reaching the summit of the Guadalupe Peak Trail. As the descent began, companions lost sight of the hiker, leading to an evening report of the missing person and the start of a search operation, as detailed by KTSM.
By around 11 a.m. the following day, the missing hiker was discovered off trail near the same location, as per a news release from the NPS, which was backed by an impressive array of local and federal agencies, including the Carlsbad Fire Department, Eddy County Fire and Rescue, and an assortment from the Texas Department of Public Safety and U.S. Border Patrol units, among others. "The family of the hiker and Guadalupe Mountains National Park would like to extend thanks to all of the cooperating agencies and individual volunteers whose efforts led to a successful conclusion to this incident," the NPS conveyed, as obtained by El Paso Times.
Details regarding the condition of the hiker have not been disclosed, but the emphasis on the hiker's safety in reports from varied sources underlined the effectiveness of the coordinated rescue efforts.
