
A tragic incident occurred on January 20 in our city when a mother was struck and killed by a vehicle while her 2-year-old child sustained critical injuries. The accident, which took place in the early afternoon on West Florissant, prompted a rapid response from District 6 officers, as reported by the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
According to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the 39-year-old woman, was navigating the bike lane on West Florissant, likely due to the sidewalks being icy, she was pushing a stroller when the vehicle, heading east, veered into the bike lane and collided with them. The vehicle continued its unintended path, crashed through a snowbank, and impacted a nearby house.
The driver of the car, an 80-year-old man, remained at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement officials. Investigators from the Accident Reconstruction team were brought in to discern the specifics of this unfortunate event. Subsequent to the accident, the elderly driver was taken to the hospital for observation, though details of his condition were not immediately released, as per the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
After the crash, emergency services took the two-year-old to the hospital, where he is in critical condition. The accident and the ongoing investigation have raised concerns about road safety, especially in bad weather, and the safety of pedestrians.
