A Nashville man is facing a slew of charges including aggravated assault and assaulting a police officer after an incident that took place in the midst of post-game traffic chaos. The trouble began when William Adams, 24, apparently driven to frustration by the congested streets following a Nashville Predators hockey game, took his vehicular ire out on the surrounding cars and nearly hit a police officer, as reported by Nashville.gov.
Officers reported that Adams had driven his pickup truck around barriers meant to control traffic flow. When a member of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) approached and instructed Adams to power down the vehicle and produce his driver’s license, the situation escalated. In a statement obtained by Nashville.gov, instead of complying, Adams refused and placed the vehicle into reverse, before speeding away. His reckless actions resulted in collisions with three occupied sedans, which could have resulted in serious injuries.
After successfully evading arrest that night, an investigation led law enforcement to Adams’ Ewing Drive residence the following morning. Authorities took him into custody without further incident. The judicial commissioner has since set Adams' bond at $53,000. The MNPD has not shared the names of the sedan's occupants or confirmed if they were injured during Adams' alleged reckless driving.
