The investigation into the tragic events at Antioch High School continues, as authorities piece together the moments leading up to the heartbreaking incident where Solomon Henderson, a 17-year-old student, took his own life after firing ten shots in the school's cafeteria. The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) confirmed that the shooting unfolded in a mere 17 seconds, and the weapon, a nine-millimeter pistol, was found loaded with nine rounds, according to a press release from Metro Nashville.
An additional magazine loaded with seven rounds was found on the cafeteria floor but no firearms or parts were located during a search of Henderson's residence. Contrary to initial beliefs, Henderson was driven to school by his mother, and he paused in a restroom to post photos to social media before the shooting occurred, the MNPD revealed. In the continued investigation, detectives discovered two lengthy documents, 51 and 288 pages respectively, on non-traditional websites believed to be authored by Henderson. These web-based materials are subject to close examination by MNPD Homicide Unit detectives, Specialized Investigations Division detectives, and the FBI for their potential ideological influences.
The origin of the gun used by Henderson is also under scrutiny, in a collaborative effort between the MNPD and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF). The pistol was purchased in Arizona in 2022 and had not been reported stolen, a critical point uncovered in the investigation. Chief Drake extended the MNPD's "deep condolences to Antioch High students, parents, and staff," while confirming efforts for campus and classroom safety when classes resume next week. The police department is also offering counseling assistance through the Family Intervention Program, reachable at 615-862-7773, for those affected by the tragic eventl, as per Metro Nashville.
Further addressing security concerns, the department's Security Threat branch is proactively addressing threats against schools and institutions with commitments to identifying and prosecuting those responsible. In a stern approach to public safety, three individuals were arrested today over separate threats escalating community tensions. The MNPD stated that they take "on-line, written and verbal threats against schools and institutions very seriously" and demonstrate a zero-tolerance stance in such matters, according to Metro Nashville.
