The streets of Nashville became safer this morning with the arrest of 43-year-old Randy Brooks II, who now faces a criminal homicide charge for the fatal shooting on Interstate 40 that claimed the life of Uriel Miller, 26, earlier this month. The break in the case came after Nashville Crime Stoppers received a crucial tip spurred by dashcam footage released to the public, according to the Nashville Police Department. The video showed a Honda Odyssey trailing and then sidling up to Miller's car, moments before it's believed shots rang out.
The investigation that followed the tip led authorities to Brooks, whose van matched the 2005 Honda Odyssey seen in the video, parked conspicuously outside his Sadler Avenue home. This apparent case of mistaken identity, where Brooks reportedly believed Miller's car was following him, ended tragically with Brooks allegedly opening fire on an uninvolved vehicle, investigators suggest that the shooter mistook Miller's car for another, and that fatal error now leaves two families grappling with the aftermath.
Brooks is currently being held on a $500,000 bond, awaiting the due process of law to take its course.
