San Diego's cherished Spin Nightclub is pulsating with fresh energy as two familiar faces in the local nightlife sector, Brandon Colt and Brandon Garva, step in as the new proprietors. Spin has served as a cultural pivot in San Diego for nearly two decades, and it is known for its inclusivity and diverse range of music. According to San Diego Magazine, the pair took ownership last August but kept the news low-key until this January. With their shared experience in the industry, DJ Garva's connection to Spin through the drum and bass collective SD Union, and Colt's former GM role, the transition marks not just a changing of hands but a deep-rooted passion for the venue's legacy.
A series of planned updates are in the pipeline to revamp the club's atmosphere while preserving its essence. "We want to be clear: This is not about creating a new culture. This is about honoring the one that’s been here all along," Spin Nightclub mentioned in a social media post. Colt detailed the venue's storied history to San Diego Magazine, emphasizing the importance of Spin Nightclub to San Diego's dance music scene and its reputation for after-hours events.
The duo is no strangers to the establishment; Colt has overseen Spin's operations for over a decade, and Garva, with his SD Union tenure, has long been ingrained in its cultural fabric. They're about to reintroduce after-hours delights to Spin, a factor that has been integral to the club's identity. Drawing from their raving days, the two aim to reinstate Spin's roots in underground dance culture. "Especially with the shifts happening in the industry, Spin is carving out something totally unique," Garva told San Diego Magazine.
