Tragedy struck New Orleans East early Saturday morning when a fire took the life of a 67-year-old man, identified through NOLA's official report, at his residence on Flake Ave. The New Orleans Fire Department received a call at 2:49 a.m., was dispatched one minute later, and arrived on the scene by 2:55 a.m. to battle the blaze which had fully engulfed the single-story home.

Despite a swift response, with firefighters arriving on scene within five minutes of the call, flames were already spilling through the roof. Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and mentioned that the homeowner might still be inside. Although firefighters worked to suppress the flames and conduct a search, their efforts were not enough to save the man, who lived alone, as per the New Orleans Fire Departmnet.

A total of 21 fire operations personnel from seven New Orleans Fire Department units worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control by 3:20 a.m. Unfortunately, the homeowner's life was claimed by the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the New Orleans Fire Department, who are carefully examining the scene to determine what sparked the deadly incident.
