
On the afternoon of January 2, 2025, a two-alarm fire broke out in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The fire was reported around 2:17 p.m. at an unoccupied apartment building on the 1200 block of Chartres Street. The New Orleans Fire Department quickly responded, arriving at 1226 Chartres St. just five minutes after the call. This area was familiar to the firefighters, as they had fought fires there before.
The New Orleans Fire Department quickly upgraded the response to a second alarm at 2:24 p.m., just two minutes after arriving. They saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the second-story roof but were able to contain the fire to the building.
Forty-seven firefighters and 18 units from the New Orleans Fire Department worked to control the fire, which was declared under control at 3:08 p.m. Thankfully, no one was injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
