A New Orleans man is the subject of a manhunt following a deadly shooting, authorities said. The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has named 25-year-old Jermaine Cole Jr. as the suspect in a fatal incident that took place on a recent Sunday evening in Chalmette. The shooting, which police described as an isolated event, occurred around 6:40 p.m. on East Solidell Street, resulting in one man being fatally wounded and later dying in a local hospital, as reported by WGNO.

After detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau conducted their investigation, they identified Cole, hailing from the 4900 block of Maid Marion Drive, as the person responsible for the shooting. Cole now faces charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, "the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office said, and the suspect and victim were acquaintances," according to a statement obtained by NOLA.com. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found the victim with gunshot wounds, after which he was swiftly taken to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.

The authorities are now reaching out to the community, urging anyone with knowledge about Cole’s whereabouts, or the incident, to come forward. The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office can be contacted at (504) 271-2501. Additionally, information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers GNO at (504) 822-1111, details shared by FOX8Live.

St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann, reassured the public by emphasizing the incident's isolated nature, contending, "The shooting was an isolated incident", a claim corroborated by multiple outlets including FOX8live. Investigations into the case are ongoing as officials work swiftly to make an arrest and bring closure to the unnerved Chalmette community.
