
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has released preliminary crime statistics for last week, showing mixed results in the city's efforts to combat violent crime. The report includes details on a suspect's arrest in connection with a fatal shooting and a decrease in gun-related arrests and seizures, according to the New Orleans Police Department News website.
New Orleans Police Department arrested Anjanau "Henny" Davis on Monday last week. Davis is charged with principle to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a store employee during a December 31 robbery. Davis is the third suspect arrested in this case. On Thursday last week a 15-year-old juvenile and Caine Moore were arrested in connection with a separate January 1 homicide. Both are facing charges of second-degree murder.
The New Orleans Police Department has reported a decline in gun violence so far in 2025. Arrests for illegal firearm possession have decreased by 59 percent, with 13 arrests made compared to 32 during the same period in 2024.
Firearm seizures have also decreased. By Monday last week, NOPD officers had seized 86 firearms in criminal investigations, a 36 percent decrease from the 136 firearms seized in the same period in 2024.
