
A motorcyclist lost his life in a traffic collision on Wednesday in Bayou St. John as reported by New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). The accident occurred near the junction of North Broad Street and Ursulines Avenue. After the injury, the man was transported by paramedics to a local hospital at approximately 8:30 p.m, and there, he succumbed to his wounds, NOLA.com reports.
The incident unfolded when the motorcyclist, traveling at a reported high speed on North Broad Street, collided with a pickup truck that was making a left turn onto Belle Chasse Street. Investigators cordoned off the area following the crash and were seen examining the scene, including debris from the motorcycle and the stationary dark extended-cab pickup truck at the intersection, as mentioned by NOLA.com.
According to WWLTV, the driver of the pickup truck remained at the crash site and cooperated with law enforcement officials. No charges have been levied as of now. NOPD has announced that the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is tasked with identifying the victim post-autopsy.
The fatal crash has prompted a full investigation by NOPD, which detailed that after the motorcycle attempted an abrupt stop, it resulted in a collision, according to a statement by officers cited by WGNO. The identity of the individual who died will be disclosed by the coroner’s office once the necessary procedures have been completed and the family has been notified. NOPD has invited anyone with further information on the incident to reach out to their Traffic Fatality Unit.
