The turn of the new year in Atlanta was marked by a tragic beginning as authorities responded to a deadly triple shooting outside the Lacuna Bar and Bistro. The incident, which occurred just before 3:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day, claimed the life of a 28-year-old man and left two others injured—a 41-year-old man and a 48-year-old man who were taken to local hospital for treatment. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the violence ensued following a conflict that began inside the bar and spilled into the streets after security personnel expelled a group from the premises.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain scarce; however, the WSB-TV reports indicate that the confrontation continued in the parking lot and escalated when shots were fired. A security guard working at Lacuna Bar and Bistro was among the injured in the outburst of gunfire that also resulted in damage to multiple vehicles parked nearby.
With the investigation ongoing, Atlanta Police Homicide Unit Commander Lt. Andrew Smith revealed that the evidence suggests the involvement of multiple shooters. "There were three shooters as there were three different areas with shell casings," he told WSB-TV. In an effort to piece together the events that led to this fatal incident, police are meticulously combing through security footage from both inside and outside the nightclub.
As yet, authorities have not released the identities of the victims nor of any possible suspects. Those with any information that could be instrumental to the investigation are urged to contact the Atlanta Police Department.
