Norwich University cadet Daniel Bermudez tragically died after collapsing during a training drill on Wednesday. He was taken to Central Vermont Medical Center, where he passed away after 8 p.m. The incident is under investigation, according to NBC Boston.
Northfield Police Chief Pierre Gomez said his department was informed of the cadet's death the next morning by state police, as they were not initially notified due to Bermudez passing at the medical center. The cause of death is still under investigation, and his body has been sent for an autopsy, as stated by NBC Boston.
Norwich University President Lt. Gen. John Broadmeadow confirmed the sudden passing of Cadet Daniel Bermudez '28 on Wednesday, saying, "We are heartbroken to confirm the sudden passing of our student, Cadet Daniel Bermudez ‘28 on January 15, 2025. The loss has deeply affected our entire campus community, and we are united in our grief. Our thoughts and condolences are with Daniel’s family, friends, and all those who were close to him." Bermudez, a criminal justice major and member of Bravo Company, was from Norwalk, Connecticut. The university is providing support to the community, and a candlelight vigil was held in his honor.
