
The Oakland Police Department has made an arrest connected to the December shooting of Ponciano “Chano” Tule Bernal, laying charges against a 15-year-old juvenile. The incident took place on the 1100 block of Foothill Boulevard, leaving Bernal dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, according to the Oakland Police Department.
Officers were called to the area on December 26, 2024, at approximately 4:15 PM after a ShotSpotter device was activated. Paramedics rushed to offer aid but to no avail, as Bernal was ultimately pronounced deceased on the spot. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office is taking the juvenile into the folds of the legal system, but details of the charges have not been widely publicized as of yet. The OPD has since been vigorously working the case, seeking out any additional information that might illuminate the circumstances of Bernal's tragic end.
