Two fires in Oceanside, California, have drawn the attention of local firefighters, leading to an arson investigation at a popular movie theater. Last night, the Oceanside Fire Department responded to a fire at the Regal Cinema located at 401 Mission Ave. As reported by ABC 10News, emergency callers described flames emanating from a drainage pipe on the building's front wall around 10:20 p.m.
Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene, managing to contain the blaze to the point of origin. However, a room on the opposite side of the wall experienced smoke damage. "Preliminary findings indicate that a fire had been intentionally started in a plastic drainage pipe on the exterior of the building," the Oceanside Fire Department stated, per ABC 10News. The investigation pointed toward arson, though suspects were not identified this morning.
Similar urgency was seen when the department was alerted to another fire at American Tire Depot, 515 North Coast Highway. According to the Oceanside Fire Department's Facebook post, firefighters responded to the second emergency at 1:06 a.m., battling smoke from the building's roof. Crews forcefully entered through a locked door and utilized a ladder truck to ventilate the structure, ensuring efficient fire suppression in the lobby area.
Investigators are working to determine if an electrical wiring failure may have been the cause of the fire at American Tire Depot. Despite early findings, "These separate incidents are not believed to be related," the Oceanside Fire Department underscored the independence of the two events. Meanwhile, OFD has been reinforcing the importance of fire safety practices, as illustrated by FOX 5 San Diego, which commends the community's quick reporting and the firefighters' prompt responses that help safeguard lives and minimize damage. Anyone with information related to the Regal Cinema incident is asked to contact the Oceanside Fire Department's Investigations Unit.
