An Ohio man's desperate attempt to escape the law resulted in a series of dangerous actions including trying to drive his car off a tow truck. The incident occurred on Friday on Interstate 65 southbound near mile marker 206, close to the exits for Rensselaer and Remington, according to a press release from Indiana State Police obtained by FOX59.
The scene began with a single-vehicle crash involving a 2008 Toyota Camry. When troopers arrived and confronted the driver, they discovered he had provided a false identity. Further investigation by the state police uncovered that the driver was Carlos D. Sept, 52, of Dayton, who was wanted for a probation violation tied to past crimes in Ohio, as documented by WTHR.
State police stated that when they tried to detain him, Sept resisted arrest and ran across the interstate's active lanes, inducing several accidents. After evading officers by running into a nearby ditch and eluding the search underway by a K-9 unit named Cooper, Sept made his bold attempt to flee by getting into his partially-towed vehicle and trying to drive it off a tow truck. This audacious effort, however, failed to result in an escape, according to officials cited in an article by WRTV.
Ultimately, Sept was apprehended and now faces several charges, including possession of a controlled substance and intimidation — both Level 6 Felonies — as well as misdemeanors for providing a false identity, resisting law enforcement, and possession of marijuana. The controlled substance found was suspected to be heroin, in addition to the marijuana Sept had on his person. The most severe charges carry a potential prison sentence of up to 2.5 years and a fine of up to $10,000.
