Brace yourselves, Orlando residents—it's shaping to be a week when umbrellas and warm jackets are the leading fashion statements. The National Weather Service in Melbourne announced much below-normal temperatures and cold rain that will start tonight and extend into Wednesday.
The weather is also gearing up to make a solid wave at the coast. Becoming windy with a period of Gale conditions, possibly Tuesday night into Wednesday, with high, pounding surf along the coast, especially Cape Northward, as described in the official forecast. Moreover, there's a strong chance to experience gusty north winds by Tuesday night that could rattle coastal areas with gusts around 40 mph. The sea is predicted to become equally unruly, with waves reaching as high as 13 feet in the Gulf Stream.
The chill isn't letting up there. Later this week, we're told to expect the coldest temperatures, while the weekend should bring some increased sunshine. We're talking widespread 30s by Saturday morning, hinting at an atypically frosty scene for the Sunshine State's standards. However, as the high pressure off the Carolina coast ushers in an easterly wind trend, temperatures next Sunday could climb back into the low to mid-70s, providing a slight respite from the bitter cold.
For those considering a venture onto the waters, think again. The forecast indicates not-so-friendly marine conditions, with a Small Craft Advisory in effect until this evening due to a northerly pressure gradient kicking up winds of 18-20 knots and even higher gusts. Another wave of low pressure is forecast to ride along the old front Thu-Thu night, followed by a surge of N/NW winds bringing cold and dry air into the area, the Weather Service warned, hinting at prolonged periods where being on a boat could range from hazardous to downright dangerous.
As for aviation, VFR conditions are expected throughout the day, giving travelers and pilots a brief interlude from the tumultuous weather. However, MVFR CIGs and SHRA are set to move northward by tonight, potentially obfuscating the skies and complicating flights. So, it seems a good time to monitor your flight status if you plan to traverse the sky anytime soon.
