Heads up, commuters and locals in Destrehan: The southbound stretch of Ormond Boulevard from Thomas Coby Drive to Elmwood Drive is slated for closure starting Monday, January 13. Scheduled to run from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily, the closure is essential for the tying-in of a sewer force main, a project anticipated to reach completion by Friday, January 17, according to the St. Charles Parish.
The advised detour directs southbound traffic to turn right onto Thomas Coby Drive, then a left onto Schexnaydre Lane, and detour signs will be clearly displayed to assist motorists. For those residing on the west side of the affected Ormond Boulevard portion, the median crossings will be accessible to execute a U-turn to the northbound side, which remains open despite the construction ahead, as reported by the St. Charles Parish.
According to details shared by St. Charles Parish website, the closures are part of a necessary infrastructure update that will ensure better servicing for the area residents. They've specifically mentioned that "the closure will last through Friday, January 17, 2025, and is necessary to complete the tie-in to the sewer force main at Ormond Boulevard and Wildcat Lane in Destrehan."
Worth noting for parents and students, Destrehan High School's buses and students' access to Wildcat Lane won't be affected during the tie-in process. The essential access during morning and afternoon hours will remain as per usual, ensuring that educational routines maintain their rhythm amidst the infrastructural changes taking shape around them.
