Starting 10 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced a full closure of the northbound lane just north of Missouri Route 14 (Jackson Street). According to an alert by MoDOT, the closure is necessary for installation of a new storm drain pipe, which is a key component of the U.S. Route 65 Highway Widening project in Christian County.
While the highway is closed, crews will be hard at work beneath the surface, making improvements slated to better manage stormwater and support the region's infrastructure demands. Beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, lane closures will precede the full shutdown of northbound Route 65, rescheduled from its original February 9 date due to unspecified reasons. This closure will extend until the early hours of 6 a.m. Monday, February 17, forcing drivers to reconsider their night commutes.
The MoDOT advisory points out that there will be no enforced detours, but signs and law enforcement presence will guide motorists away from northbound Route 65 to Route 14 during the closure. Southbound Route 65 remains open, albeit constricted to two 10-foot lanes. While southbound traffic flows, northbound travelers are urged to plan alternative paths, potentially averting delays resulting from construction tasks.
