
A fatal incident occurred in Belle Chasse on Saturday evening when a pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV, according to the Louisiana State Police. The victim was identified as 69-year-old Jamie Young of Harvey. The accident happened on LA 3017 (Engineers Road) near Commerce Street around 7:45 p.m., as reported by WWLTV.
Authorities stated that Young was walking in the southbound lane in dark clothing when he was hit by a 1999 Mercedes M-Class SUV. The driver of the SUV was tested for alcohol and showed a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.000g%, according to NOLA. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. Police are still waiting for the results of toxicology tests to determine if Young was impaired.
The collision caused fatal injuries to Young, resulting in his death at the scene. Following the accident, the Louisiana State Police are advising pedestrians to take precautions for their safety. They recommend walking against traffic and wearing brightly colored or reflective clothing for better visibility.
