A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend in Boynton Beach when a vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian on Military Trail. As reported by CBS12, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident occurred near the intersection with Woolbright Road, where the pedestrian, facing southbound in the center lane, was hit from behind and pronounced dead on the scene. The name of the pedestrian has not been disclosed.
In a separate but related report by The Palm Beach Post, the victim was identified as 57-year-old Leonard William Cooper III. Investigators have released no information on why Cooper was seated in the roadway and have stated that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office has not provided additional details on the circumstances leading to this fatal event. However, their statement included a critical reminder about road safety, pointing out that "pedestrians should be crossing in crosswalks and drivers need to stay alert while driving," according to CBS12. This remark serves to reinforce the shared responsibility between drivers and pedestrians to maintain vigilance to prevent such tragic outcomes.
As details surround the incident are still to fully emerge, local authorities are likely to continue to investigate the matter. The public is encouraged to partake in cautious roadway behaviors to ensure prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
