Phoenix drivers, prepare for a weekend of detours and delays. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced significant freeway closures and restrictions from January 10 to 13 due to the ongoing I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. According to ADOT, eastbound I-10 will be completely closed between the SR 51 "Mini-Stack" interchange and the US 60 (Superstition Freeway) from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. As suggested, motorists should consider alternate routes or allow for extra travel time during these disruptions.
Additional closures include the eastbound I-10 on-ramps from Third Street to Baseline Road, and southbound Interstate 17 ramps to eastbound I-10, closures starting at 8 p.m., which could add complications to your weekend plans. Detours will involve the eastbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to westbound US 60 or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway), or alternatively, the southbound/eastbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to rejoin I-10 near Chandler Boulevard – for a series of paths weaving through our urban fabric, ADOT noted.
Expect closures on northbound State Route 143 between I-10 and Loop 202 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, with a detour through westbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 202. Travelers to Sky Harbor should plan extra time and consider alternative routes via 24th Street, Buckeye Road, or 44th Street from the north. Also, westbound I-10 will have lane restrictions between 32nd and 24th streets on Saturday from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. for signage work. In Scottsdale, bridge construction will close the northbound Loop 101 on-ramp and southbound off-ramp at Raintree Drive, potentially affecting weekend traffic, as reported by the ADOT.
For updates and the latest highway conditions, drivers are encouraged to consult the ADOT's Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov or by using the az511 app, ensuring their travels are not upended by unanticipated roadway predicaments.
