Pierce County Superior Court recently declared Scott Peters as the judge-elect for Department 9, succeeding the retiring Judge Edmund Murphy. As reported on the county's official website, Peters is set to begin his judicial duties on Monday, Jan. 13. The newly elected judge is looking forward to attending Judicial College later in January, which will serve to further prepare him for his upcoming role on the bench.
Peters, who has dedicated over two decades to public service, boasts an impressive legal background including an education from Gonzaga University and the University of Washington School of Law. According to his professional trajectory detailed by Pierce County's official announcement, he was to swiftly pass the Washington State Bar Exam in the summer of 2004, further signaling his readiness to serve. His tenure in the Prosecutor's Office saw Peters handling a diverse range of high-stakes cases.
In addition to his substantial legal experience, Peters has committed a significant portion of his time to community service and non-profit work. Notably, he chairs the Julian Bray Pierce County Chapter of Lawyers Helping Hungry Children and passionately supports the Relay for Life alongside his family. Peters is also involved in his daughter's extracurricular activities, volunteering with both her Girl Scout Troop and gymnastics program.
