Placer County Animal Services and FieldHaven Feline Center Team Up to Rescue 47 Cats from Southern California WildfiresSource: County of Placer

As wildfires rage across Southern California, displacing thousands of animals, Placer County Animal Services and FieldHaven Feline Center are stepping in to give some much-needed relief. The local nonprofit FieldHaven has joined forces with Placer County Animal Services to help clear space in Southern California shelters by transferring 47 adoptable felines northward, providing them new opportunities for finding forever homes.

According to a statement obtained by Placer County's news outlet, Katie Ingram, program manager with Placer County Animal Services, said, "By bringing them here, we can support Stray Cat Alliance’s efforts to open up shelter space and foster homes in L.A. for animals directly impacted by the fires." Placer County, no stranger to fire emergencies and their effect on shelters, has previously received similarly crucial support from neighboring counties during the Mosquito and River fires, teaching us an important lesson in reciprocity.

The collaboration has not only alleviated the strain on Southern California's shelters but also presents the Northern California community with the chance to adopt and provide a loving home to these displaced cats. PCAS has announced that 18 of the cats will be ready for adoption as soon as Saturday and invites locals to its Auburn facility or to view available pets on the Placer County website.

For those who resonate with the cause but find Auburn a stretch too far, well, the remaining cats are set to grace the facility at FieldHaven’s Lincoln location at 2754 Ironwood Lane. FieldHaven's Executive Director, Smith has expressed gratitude for the strong community partnerships in Placer County stating, "These fires have impacted thousands of animals, and we’re eager to play a small role in helping our neighbors to the south," during an interview with Placer County officials
