Starting February 26 and running through April 30, the county's Community Development Resource Agency will host a range of visioning workshops - both online and in-person - to draft out the landscape of the county for the next couple of decades. This is all part of the Placer 2050 General Plan Update, a kind of master plan that's set to navigate unincorporated areas of the county into the future.
In a nod to modern times, Placer County officials have chosen to simultaneously open the discussion to virtual spaces. The workshops intend to gather feedback on key areas including, but not limited to, sustainability, transportation, and housing. "We are excited to offer the opportunity for our residents to share their vision for the future of Placer County, inspiring and shaping the direction of our community planning," Principal Planner Jennifer Byous said, as reported by the Placer County's official publication.
The county isn't just throwing its residents into the deep end without a lifeline. They've put together a thorough collection of background reports and an "Assets, Issues and Opportunities" booklet. These resources are designed to get everyone up to speed on what's at stake and to help guide the collaborative brainstorming sessions. Those who prefer the traditional touch of face-to-face dialogue can attend any of the several in-person open houses. The first session kicks off at the Martha Riley Library in Roseville and culminates with a Tahoe Discover and Discuss event at the North Tahoe Event Center. It's a move to ensure all voices can be heard, whether one chooses to attend from behind a screen or from across a table.
