The Plymouth Police Department issued a notice about Cortney Lynch, a Level 3 Sex Offender now registered as homeless in the downtown Plymouth area. While he is not wanted by the police, the community is advised to be aware of his presence, as stated by the Plymouth Police Department.
Public notifications about registered sex offenders help keep communities informed. The police explained that "there are very few restrictions on the activities registered sex offenders may engage in or on the locations they may go." The goal is to let citizens "can make their own decisions that best keep themselves and their families safe." More information is available on the Sex Offender Registry Board’s Public Website, as reported by the Plymouth Police Department.
According to the Plymouth Police Department on their Facebook page, Sergeant Ben Dexter is available for any questions about Lynch's sex offender status. The post reminded the public that sex offender registry information is for safety purposes only and should not be misused. It stated, "Sex offender registration information shall not be used to commit a crime against an offender or engage in illegal discrimination or harassment of an offender," and warned that violations could lead to penalties, including jail time or fines.
