Travelers through Butler County will need to adjust their routes as the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) commences the replacement of a bridge over Drainage Ditch One on Route B. Starting Jan. 27, the segment of road situated between Route Z and County Road 557 near Poplar Bluff is set to be fully closed to traffic, according to MoDOT. This major infrastructure update is aimed to be completed by May 7, weather permitting.
As crews work to swiftly replace the aging bridge, motorists are being directed to seek alternate routes as the road will stay closed throughout the duration of the project. To lessen the inconvenience caused by the closure, signs will clearly mark the work zone. Yet, officials are urging drivers to use extreme caution and to carefully navigate around the area to ensure safety for both the construction teams and the public.
For those who heavily rely on Route B for their daily commutes, the nearly four-month closure represents a significant disruption. Nevertheless, such infrastructure maintenance is critical for ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of our roadways. Commuters and residents are encouraged to plan ahead and stay informed on the project's progress through updates provided by MoDOT.
