Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has filed a lawsuit against gym giant LA Fitness, seeking $1 million in damages after being violently assaulted at one of their Florida locations last year, as reports from NBC Miami and TMZ have detailed. According to NBC Miami, the incident took place on March 21, 2023, at the LA Fitness in Lake Worth, where the rapper, whose legal name is Daniel Hernandez, was attacked by three men in the locker room leading to serious injuries that required hospitalization.
Legal documents obtained by TMZ, claim that the gym failed to provide adequate security measures and the staff was not sufficiently trained in security protocols, an omission that led to the delayed police response after the assault began and Hernandez contends resulted in the harsh extent of his injuries which included damage to his jaw, ribs, and back. A video capturing the attack went viral, showing Hernandez being kicked while on the floor of the gym locker room, reentering the facility bloodied and shoeless after the attack.
Moreover, the lawsuit alleges the gym operator, Fitness International LLC., should have been aware of the rise in violence in the surrounding area and thus had an obligation to ramp up its security measures. "Hernandez was brutally beaten, assaulted and robbed, suffered bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, loss of the capacity of the enjoyment of life, medical care and treatment expense, humiliation, and loss or income and earning capacity," according to the detailed account of the rapper's ordeal in the lawsuit obtained by NBC Miami.
Following the incident, three men were arrested in connection with the attack, including Rafael Medina, identified as a high-ranking member of the Latin Kings gang. The lawsuit succinctly paints a picture of the events leading to Hernandez's various losses which are claimed as permanent or ongoing, with the rapper expecting to incur future losses as well, pointedly noting the impact on his quality of life and financial standing and emphasizing the enduring nature of his trauma.
