Heads up, drivers in Northwest Missouri—the coming week spells roadwork and potential detours as the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) embarks on a series of highway maintenance and construction projects from January 27 to February 2. Those planning on navigating the patchwork of routes across this stretch of the state should keep an eye out for closed roads and plan alternative routes accordingly.
According to information relayed by MoDOT, weather permitting, the slated work includes pothole patching on U.S. Route 136 in Atchison County from the Brownville Bridge to Route M on January 28-29. Caldwell County's Route D will remain closed until further notice due to deck deterioration, with plans to eventually replace the bridge as part of the January 2025 contractor letting through MoDOT's Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. Route M will also be closed for a culvert replacement for a short period on January 29.
Travelers will encounter further closures for bridge replacement projects on Route 11 in Chariton County through March 2025 and on Route J in Carroll County through May 2025. Both endeavors undertake to ensure lasting structural integrity and safety on these critical connectors. Meanwhile, routine bridge maintenance will briefly restrict access to Route E over U.S. Route 65 from January 27-30.
MoDOT's updates indicate a series of culvert replacements across various routes in Daviess County, leading to day-long closures on specific sections of Route M, Route V, and other local thoroughfares. Not to be ignored, Nodaway County chimes in with its own indefinite closure on Route NN at the Platte River Bridge west of Parnell due to serious deterioration—a concern that's set to be addressed in the March 2025 contractor letting schedule. In Putnam County, the rehabilitation project on Route 129 at the North Blackbird Creek Bridge presses on through February 2025.
As the landscape of our travel corridors undergo a necessary transformation, MoDOT asks for cooperation from the public: "buckling up, putting your phone down, slowing down and moving over in work zones."
