A 32-year-old Rockford man is currently in critical condition after a serious single-vehicle accident that took place early Saturday morning in unincorporated Marengo. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident which occurred on Illinois Route 176. According to their report, the vehicle left the roadway and collided with several trees.
The crash happened around 7:23 a.m. when, for reasons yet to fully understand, a 2019 Ford Mustang went off its westbound lane on Illinois Route 176 just west of Millstream Road. It then crossed over into the oncoming lane and went off the road on the south side. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, along with Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts and Union Fire Protection District, responded to the scene.
Emergency services transported the driver, who was seat belted and in a vehicle with deployed air bags, to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford, where he is listed in critical condition. Indications suggest that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, focusing the ongoing investigation elsewhere in search of a cause.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit has taken over the investigation to further look into the sequence of events that led to this severe crash.
