Early Sunday morning, tensions turned deadly at a local bar on Auburn Boulevard leaving one man dead and another behind bars. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Facebook post, deputies were called to the scene around 1:30 AM after reports of a shooting.
The scene they arrived to was one of chaos: an unresponsive adult male under a vehicle, the aftermath of an altercation that had started inside and spilled out into the parking lot. While the events leading up to the shooting were still being pieced together, preliminary investigation showed that a fight involving John Doe and 33-year-old Oscar Alferez Jr. had escalated, with Alferez's father, 51-year-old Oscar Alferez Sr., joining the fray while brandishing a handgun threatening Doe with it leading to Alferez Sr.'s accidental death caused by Doe's vehicle as he tried to escape gunfire, as reported by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
Witnesses at the bar provided key details to the sheriff’s detectives, who later confirmed that during the fight, Alferez Sr. was knocked down and disarmed, only for the situation to turn fatal when Alferez Jr. picked up the gun and began shooting at Doe. It was at this moment that Doe, in an attempt to flee, inadvertently drove over Alferez Sr., causing fatal injuries. Alferez Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene, as per the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation culminated with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives obtaining a warrant for the arrest of Alferez Jr. on charges of Murder and Attempted Murder charges were slapped on Alferez Jr. after Major Crimes Detectives located and apprehended him later that evening, he now faces his first court appearance on January 28. Alferez Jr. is currently in the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be revealed about the violent incident that happened in a bar parking lot.
