The latest weekly report detailing the City of Sacramento's response to homelessness has been released, providing a snapshot of efforts to assist unsheltered individuals from January 6 to January 12. Sacramento City Express detailed the initiatives undertaken by the City's Incident Management Team (IMT) which received 955 calls through the 311 customer service concerning homelessness issues.
Of these calls, the IMT successfully closed 670, indicating that the reported homeless encampments or concerns were addressed, compliance met, or the issues had resolved themselves by the time the City staff conducted their inspection. The work of the Department of Community Response saw 36 people enrolled into shared databases that link them up with shelters and other essential services, while six individuals found placement into the City's supportive housing infrastructure such as the Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center.
However, resources remain limited. As reported on Tuesday, the Roseville Road campus was operating at full capacity with no available Pallet homes or trailers, and the Outreach and Engagement Center was also nearing its limit, with only eight spaces open. City-funded shelters, on the other hand, had an average of 18 available spots, excluding those at the Roseville Road campus and the Outreach and Engagement Center."
In the realm of cleanliness and sanitation, the City's efforts culminated in the removal of 181,620 pounds of trash, a nod to the ongoing challenges that both the City and its unsheltered population face. The public looking to track the efforts of the IMT, can find weekly updates as far back as September 2023, along with cumulative statistics on outreach, compliance, and cleanup efforts in the City's data dashboard.
