Interstate 10 witnessed a grim incident this past Saturday when a man lost his life after being struck by multiple vehicles. The accident led to the closure of IH-10 West Northbound and West Hildebrand, which caused significant traffic disruptions in the area.
The unfortunate series of events unfolded after, police say, the man jumped from a moving vehicle into oncoming traffic. The San Antonio Police Department was promptly dispatched to the scene and proceeded to shut down all lanes to conduct their investigation, FOX San Antonio reported. The lanes were closed for several hours, impacting traffic flow and necessitating detours.
Officials identified the victim as 37-year-old Lorenzo Ramos. The Medical Examiner's Office later ruled his death a suicide, and according to authorities, no charges are pending in this tragic case.
Additional details emerged from the San Antonio Fire Department, citing that the accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. and involved a pedestrian being fatally struck by a vehicle on the highway. A spokesperson for SAFD confirmed the details of the fatality, which were initially reported by KSAT. Eventually, the main lanes of Interstate 10 were reopened after being closed for the investigation for, several hours.
