Yesterday morning in San Antonio, a scene unfolded that led an officer to the hospital and a young woman into custody. According to a report by KSAT, a 19-year-old driver allegedly ignored multiple traffic controls, an act that precipitated a chain of events ending in metal and mayhem at the junction of Rigsby Avenue and Clark Avenue — a San Antonio police officer, who was in pursuit of the Nissan Sentra said to be driven erratically, was injured in a collision.
The sequence of the night's activities became clearer after one officer, noticing the driver's disregard for stop signs and traffic lights, called for backup when a second officer responding to that call collided with the Nissan while it was driving southbound on Clark Avenue, the officer had non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to return to duty soon. The driver, now facing charges, was arrested at the scene for reckless driving.
In the meanwhile, details from KENS 5 added another layer by noting that it was the second officer's vehicle that struck the Nissan after the driver ran through a stop sign, the officer was taken to the hospital by EMS, the 19-year-old suspect kept in custody on the spot
As both officers involved navigate recovery and the judicial system processes the case of the young woman now charged, the streets of San Antonio's Southeast Side bear silent witness to the events that unfolded in their intersections.
