San Diego Authorities Offer $1,000 Reward for Decade-Old Murder Case Tips, Seek Public's AssistanceSource: Google Street View

San Diego County Crime Stoppers and the SDPD Homicide Unit are seeking help from the public to solve the murder of 51-year-old Steven Nelson. Nelson was shot at Riley's Bar on Nimitz Blvd. over a decade ago and, after years of medical treatment, succumbed to his injuries on December 16, 2024. A reward of $1,000 is being offered for information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in the case.

The investigation has been ongoing since the night of January 23, 2011, when Nelson was found with gunshot wounds at the bar following multiple emergency calls around 10:24 p.m. He underwent several surgeries and was in long-term care until his recent death, which has been directly linked to the injuries from the shooting. Witnesses reported that Nelson may have been in an argument with a man before being shot. The suspect, a Black male in his 30s with short afro hair and a thin mustache, was wearing a light brown sweater and black jeans at the time of the incident.

Authorities have released a description of the suspect and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be provided to the SDPD’s Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or anonymously through the Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-8477. Additionally, information can be submitted via the Crime Stoppers website. Those offering tips may be eligible for the reward if it leads to an arrest.
