The City by the Bay is set to receive a substantial infusion of federal dollars to rejuvenate a key piece of its transit infrastructure. Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi has announced a $9.2 million grant, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Transportation, earmarked for the overhaul of San Francisco's historic Presidio Yard. This facility serves as the backbone for bus maintenance in the city and has been operational for over a century, signaling a clear need for modernization.
Pelosi championed the efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration in fortifying the nation's infrastructure and underscored the continued push for San Francisco to be a model of transit intelligence, "Thanks to the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, our nation’s infrastructure is stronger than ever – and San Francisco continues to make progress in our mission to be a transit-smart city," the Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi stated in a release. She highlighted the expected benefits of a modern Presidio Yard that would sharpen the efficiency of Muni operations and pivot towards sustainable, zero-emission transportation.
The acting director of SFMTA, Julie Kirschbaum, expressed gratitude for the support from various government officials, including Pelosi, Senators Alex Padilla and Dianne Feinstein, and the DOT. "This grant helps us take a huge step towards the Presidio Yard Modernization Project that will build a state-of-the-art facility for our employees who work hard and are committed to get our customers where they need to go," Kirschbaum said, as per Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi's official website.
