Two men disguised as Amazon delivery drivers attacked 66-year-old Dirk Hardison during a home invasion last Saturday at 8 a.m. on the 500 block of Price Street in Savannah, Georgia. The suspects tricked Hardison into opening his door before forcing their way in and assaulting him. Surveillance footage showed the attackers wearing Amazon-like uniforms, with one carrying a package.
Savannah Police are searching for two men who attacked Hardison, striking him on the head before fleeing the scene. Hardison was taken to the hospital, and authorities believe the crime was targeted. Savannah Mayor Van Johnson advised residents, saying, "You should never open the door for folks that you don’t know," and recommended being cautious with unexpected deliveries and contacting the police if necessary, as per statements to both Fox 5 Atlanta and WJCL.
A GoFundMe page has raised over $12,000 for Hardison following an attack. Mayor Johnson pledged, "We will find out who did this," and noted similar crimes are happening nationwide. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the suspects were not delivering for the company and stated Amazon monitors and removes unauthorized branded apparel. The community is encouraged to share any information with CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020 or via the Savannah Police Department mobile app, according to WJCL.
