Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona has voiced his support for the Laken Riley Act after the Senate voted to move it forward. According to an official statement from his office, Kelly emphasized the Act's pertinence to his commitment to keeping his constituents secure and tackling the broader issues of border security and immigration reform.
Senator Kelly said, “I support this effort because federal authorities need to protect our communities from criminals. Keeping Arizonans safe is my top priority and I’m committed to working with Republicans and Democrats on solutions to secure our border and fix our broken immigration system,” as stated in a press release.
The bill, which is named after Laken Riley, aims at enhancing federal measures to improve safety within local communities that have been impacted by crime related to border issues and immigration disputes. The specific provisions of the Laken Riley Act remain under discussion.
