The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office honored Deputy James Anderson Jr., who died in the line of duty 15 years ago. On January 14, 2010, Deputy Anderson was killed when his patrol vehicle was hit head-on by a driver going the wrong way on I-295 near Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Facebook post stated that the driver responsible for the crash was convicted of DUI manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI with property damage, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Deputy Anderson had served with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office for about two years. Before that, he worked with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and had a 20-year career with the United States Marine Corps.
