Adrian Peebles, a 31-year-old St. Louis man, has admitted to staging multiple vehicular accidents as part of an insurance fraud scheme. Peebles pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud in a recent court appearance. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Peebles carried out his scheme from September 2021 to January 2023, mainly during the night in remote areas to avoid detection.
As noted in the U.S. Attorney's Office release, Peebles often claimed false injuries following these incidents and sought treatment at emergency rooms, claiming "non-determinative pain that required expensive tests that never identified any particular injury." He directed insurance payments to himself instead of the hospitals, allowing him to collect funds and avoid paying medical bills. His actions caused insurance companies to lose over $100,000.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ware, with the FBI's investigation providing key evidence. Peebles is scheduled for sentencing on April 17.
