Police have arrested 46-year-old Charles Teal in connection with the fatal shooting of Deon Bell outside Kings Meat Market in St. Petersburg. Teal, apprehended on January 3, faces charges including second-degree murder for the December 18 incident, as confirmed by the St. Petersburg Police Department and reported by FOX 13 News.
According to the authorities, Teal pursued Bell that morning, a pursuit captured on video showing Teal with a firearm and later confirmed to be Teal himself during questioning, as detailed by WFLA News Channel 8; after being shot multiple times Bell sought refuge in the Kings Meat Market, instructing an employee to hide him while awaiting police and medical assistance before succumbing to his injuries at Bayfront Medical Center.
The investigation built on witness statements and the video footage obtained near the scene at 3467 14th Avenue South, where Teal is seen with the gun and Bell, the victim, sustained the fatal gunshot wounds, as reported by IONTB. Investigators allege that Teal acted with reckless disregard for human life, shooting Bell without premeditation.
Teal, whose past includes a 2010 conviction for grand theft auto and thus prohibited from owning firearms, was found to have a Norinco SKS 7.62 rifle during a search of his premises and now, beyond the murder charge, faces charges as a felon in possession of a firearm and is confronting additional probation violations, encapsulating the gravity of his current situation as he remains in the Pinellas County Jail without bond.
