The City's Department of Public Works is diving into a drainage improvement project next week. According to a recent announcement, the area on Johnson Street next to the park is about to get a bit busier. Starting Monday, February 3, the park's east side will see the addition of a new berm aimed at directing stormwater more efficiently into the canal.
Around 100 truckloads of "clean fill" are set to be delivered throughout the week, with operations scheduled to conclude by Friday, February 7. Residents should anticipate increased traffic and typical construction activity in the area. While the city is working to minimize disruptions, some delays are expected, and locals are encouraged to remain patient during this time.
For those concerned about the implications of this project, the city has offered reassurances. "Every effort will be made to minimize the impact to residents," says the city's statement. Residents near Sunset Park or those who frequently travel along Johnson Street are advised to plan ahead for the upcoming week. The city appreciates the community's cooperation as efforts continue to strengthen local defenses against flooding.
